Planetary nebulae with close binary central stars
The observational record concerning planetary nebulae with close binarynuclei is surveyed, in light of a model for the formation of suchnebulae which predicts a characteristic, nonspherical morphology.Although agreement is found between the morphological prediction of themodel and the observed shapes of M2-9, NGC 6164-5, and MZ 3, cases arefound in which different observations yield different results withrespect to central star variability.
