Submit a new article| Stellar dynamics in the nuclei of M31 and M32 - Evidence for massive black holes? New kinematic data based on the calcium IR triplet lines are presentedthat define rotation and velocity disersion profiles for the nuclei ofM31 and M32 with high accuracy. New dynamical models are used todetermine the mass distribution of the centers of these galaxies withmuch greater reliability than in the past. The results demonstrate thatthe nuclei rotate very rapidly and have very large mass-to-light ratios, recalling model A of Ostriker and Tremaine (1982) in the case of M31.The results strongly suggest the presence of massive black holes in thenuclei of both galaxies.
