High-speed photometry of symbiotic stars and recurrent novae High time resolution photometry of 12 southern symbiotic stars showsthat there is no flickering activity, in contrast with the recurrentnovae where the flickering amplitude may reach several tenths of amagnitude. If a binary star model is used to explain the properties ofthese stars then the constancy of the symbiotic stars is a consequenceof the mass transfer rate being lower than for the recurrent novae.
