Contribution to the search for binaries among Am stars - IV. HD 100054B and 187258
Radial velocity observations of HD 100054B and 187258 with CORAVELinstruments at Haute-Provence and Cambridge Observatories are reported.Known as Am/Fm metallic-line stars, both objects were included in ourspectroscopic survey of Am-type stars, the purpose of which was todetermine the frequency and properties of binaries in this stellarfamily.HD 100054B is found to be a single-lined spectroscopic binary with avariable value of V0, the systemic velocity of the centre ofgravity of the pair. The variation of this parameter is interpreted interms of orbital motion of an unseen third body with a much longerperiod. The orbital elements are derived for both the short- and thelong-period orbits. We find P= 12.79430 d, T= 2449781.19 HJD, ω=137°, e= 0.028, K1= 18.69 km s-1,a1 sin i= 3.29 Gm and f(m) = 0.0087 Msolar for theshort-period orbit; and P= 874.2 d, T= 244 9377 HJD, ω= 172°,e= 0.097, K1= 5.30 km s-1, V0=-13.52 kms-1, a1 sin i= 63.4 Gm and f(m) = 0.013Msolar for the long-period orbit.HD 187258 is found to be a single-lined spectroscopic binary, theorbital elements of which are P= 25.8048 d, T= 244 9628.91 HJD, , e=0.370, K1= 17.36 km s-1, V0=-34.76 kms-1, a1 sin i= 5.72 Gm and f(m) = 0.011Msolar.Physical parameters of the primary components of these systems arederived.

Vitesses radiales. Catalogue WEB: Wilson Evans Batten. Subtittle: Radial velocities: The Wilson-Evans-Batten catalogue.
We give a common version of the two catalogues of Mean Radial Velocitiesby Wilson (1963) and Evans (1978) to which we have added the catalogueof spectroscopic binary systems (Batten et al. 1989). For each star, when possible, we give: 1) an acronym to enter SIMBAD (Set ofIdentifications Measurements and Bibliography for Astronomical Data) ofthe CDS (Centre de Donnees Astronomiques de Strasbourg). 2) the numberHIC of the HIPPARCOS catalogue (Turon 1992). 3) the CCDM number(Catalogue des Composantes des etoiles Doubles et Multiples) byDommanget & Nys (1994). For the cluster stars, a precise study hasbeen done, on the identificator numbers. Numerous remarks point out theproblems we have had to deal with.

A preliminary compilation of DS-programme star positions
A catalog is presented of the double-star-program (DS-program) starpositions, listing right ascensions for 930 DSs and declinations for1225 DSs of the program. The positions were compiled from the observedvalues obtained between 1980 and 1987 with the meridian circles of sixUSSR observatories (the Moscow, Kazan', Kiev, Khar'kov, Odessa, andTashkent Observatories) and the Belgrade Observatory. The measurementsand the treatment of the observational material were performed using therelative method, and the FK-4 system stars were used as reference stars.

Miscellaneous spectroscopic notes
Results of slit-spectrograph observations are reported for approximately260 stars. The data presented range from recognition of many new Ap, Am,and other unusual stars to H-alpha observations of early-typesupergiants and Be stars. The material discussed was obtained over thepast 40 years at a number of U.S. observatories and at the DominionAstrophysical Observatory in Victoria, B.C.

Estimation of spectral classifications for bright northern stars with interesting Stromgren indices
The purpose of this investigation is to provide spectroscopic observerswith finding lists of potentially interesting objects. From anunpublished UVBY catalogue of 7026 northern stars (mostly brighter than8.3m) 1094 objects with interesting combinations of UVBY indices havebeen selected. Most stars with post-HD classifications have beenexcluded, as well as late F dwarfs belonging to the intermediatepopulation II. For the 792 remaining stars estimated spectralclassifications are given. The techniques and experience from a previouspaper dealing with southern stars have been utilized here. Among thepredicted spectral classifications are 40 OB stars; 262 Ap, Am, or Fmstars; 16 supergiants of types A to G; 110 bright giants of types A to K(class II); 156 double stars or objects with composite spectra; 26 lateF dwarfs; 91 weak-lined dwarf and giant stars of types F to K, includingearly F-type population II field blue stragglers; and a few possiblefield horizontal branch stars, lambda Bootis-type stars, and late-typehalo giants.
