Our on-line system is a detailed sky map. We generate the map automatically using our database with the positions and basic characteristics of space objects. You can get more details from Getting Started.
Yes. A Click on SDSS button at the left upper corner () generates a real high resolution Sky Survey image of the area that you have been browsing. Another way to look at different sky images is to go to Astro Photo.
Simply put, the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) is the most ambitious astronomical survey ever undertaken. When completed, it will provide detailed optical images covering more than a quarter of the sky, and a 3-dimensional map of about a million galaxies and quasars. As the survey progresses, the data are released to the scientific community and the general public in annual increments.
SDSS covers only about a quarter of the sky and you are probably browsing the uncovered area at this moment. See SDSS sky coverage page for details.
Currently we only provide the map of the space objects located outside of our Solar System.
